Reverend John Lothrop

One of the lines I am working on now is the Lothrop line. John's daughter Jane married Samuel Fuller of the Mayflower. I am very close two documenting this line.

My wife and daughter and granddaughter went to New England this summer and one of the places we went to was the home of John Lothrop. They have a wonderful Library their and it was a lot of fun to go through and look at all the thing their. They had his old bible and lots of recorders. This is a great place to go to if your are ever in New England. It is located in Barnstable MA.

Standley family

There is another part of my family that is very important to me--my Standley family.

This is my Grandfather and Grandmother Joseph Hyrum Standley and Lillie Viola Russell. Just a few years ago I knew very little about these families. It is strange how a few years can change what you know about some one.

Grandpa Standley, as we called him, had a hard younger life. At the age of 3 his mother was killed in a buggy rollover. His father remarried, and the family moved to Idaho. At the age of 8 his father died. At this time his step-mother took his half brother, left Idaho, and went back to Utah. This left him and his brothers and sisters to fare for themselves. Grandpa was lucky--he found the Moss family in Ririe that took him in and treated him as one of their own. He never talked much about his early life, so most of what I have was hand-me-downs from his family. The rest of the family went different ways, and I never got to know them. I have been lucky to get to know several of their grandchildren in later years.

Grandma was a very sweet and loving person, although you know when you had gone too far with her. She also came from a family that did not have a lot. They were teamsters and sheep herders. I think they did a lot of moving around. I do know that she had a great ancestry.
Her eighth great grandfather was William White of the Mayflower. A lot of that family was well-known in the New England area.

There is a lot more to tell and I will give more as time goes by.

John Lovell and Ann Parsons

This is a history of John Lovell and his first wife, Ann Parsons.

John Lovell

John Lovell is my second Great-Grandfather. He immigrated from England to Canada in 1835. John lived and worked with his uncles in Ontario, Canada for several years. While working there a Mormon missionary named John Taylor taught John about this new religion. Eventually John joined the LDS church and joined the saints in Nauvoo, Il. John moved west with the saints and settled in Oak City, UT where he died in 1881.

I have extensive research and histories on John Lovell. This is a photograph of him. I hope to put more information here in the future.

Thomas Jefferson McClain

I have two written histories about Mary Jerusha McClain Mooney- Thomas Jefferson McClain's oldest daughter. She is not written about many histories because in 1881 she joined the Mormon church and left Georgia to be with the Mormons in 1886. As a consequence she did not have significant contact with her family following these events.

The first history is a collection of stories told by Mary Jerusha to Wanda Beck. You can find this history here.

The second history is an essay written by my daughter Tianna for the Sons of the Utah Pioneers. You can find this history with sources here.

I hope you enjoy these as much as I have.

Introduction

I am a genealogist. I love studying personal histories, collecting old pictures, and basically learning about my past. Of particular interest is early American histories including the Mayflower, Civil War, and early Mormon history. Particular research areas of specialty include New England and the Southern states - specifically Georgia.

My intent in creating this Blog is to share what I have learned and what I am currently researching in hopes of engaging others in my efforts. Please comment freely and share what you have learned on these topics.

I will be posting some of the pictures from my personal collection from time to time. If you have any related photographs please share them. I will also link from here to other related family research and would like to begin conversation on these topics as well.

One individual I have done a lot of research on is Thomas Jefferson McClain. His is my 3rd Great-Grandfather. He was born in Greene County Georgia on 14 Sept, 1823. Here is one of my favorite photos of him:

I have many more photos of Thomas and his family for those who may be interested.
Finally, if you have questions about genealogy please write. It is always fun to help others "catch the bug".
